First decide what you need to do. Then decide to enjoy it, whatever it is.

So true ;)

I get lost in the details and fail to see the bigger picture too often.

But i'll keep plugging away at making your note part of my daily life.

What prompted you to blog this btw? (feel free to tell me to mind my own bidnezz ;)

'allo mr. s! :)

open mics, actually. you race to make the sign-ups at 7:30 or whenever it is, and maybe your name gets drawn, and you go on finally at 11:00, and then you get the two-songs-or-ten-minutes, whichever-comes-first limit. and maybe it's an off-night and every other person who goes up wants to play his/her epic ballad, which happens to be appallingly bad. and maybe everyone's decided, right before you go on, that now would be a good time to leave/chat with friends/go to the bar for a beer/etc.

but open mics are pretty much the best (only?) way to break into the music scene as a solo acoustic performer. i've decided i have to play them, often, wherever i can. and i've decided to stop wishing i was elsewhere when i'm there -- to cheer on the others, to make friends, to sing along or even get up to dance if the vibe is right. if one wants a good audience one must be a good audience.

that 'n i was getting tired of being generally stressed out over doing what i love. :) it's a silly state to be in. "just have *fun* with it, you goofball."

Ooh, in a way, that's what I'm going through.

Whenever things get tough around here, I try to remember that one of the big reasons why I'm doing what I'm doing is because I *want* a significant career change. When I go to sleep at 1am, eyes tired from reading, I try to slip in one last thought before I lapse into unconsciousness: "Six years ago, I wouldn't have gotten to sleep until 3 or 4am on an average day."

That usually makes me feel much, much better :)
