17 April 2002 (Wednesday): living the real life

Lenny seems to think he is my nutritionist/personal trainer. Well, no -- I think he's just amused at my most recent attempt to have regular exercise in my life, and enjoys poking as many holes in my regimen as possible. Free weights are the real deal; machines are for wussies. Shouldn't do lower body muscle training and cardio in the same day. Oh no, not potatoes for lunch! This amuses me as much as it does him. Hell, I just want to get a habit going. I'll pass on the skin-fold calipers and calorie counters.

Still, free advice never hurts.

In a fit of procrastination last night I answered all my backlogged email, started an Evite for an ice cream making party, and bought tickets to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Also, Ava and I are going to Alaska sometime this summer; flying into Anchorage, and the plan after that is still vague. I haven't seen her in ages and haven't really spent time with her since, well, we were roommates...I think wandering glaciers and mountains together will give us what the occasional phone call can't approximate.

I also lusted after a digital camera, a mic pre and a couple of virtual analog synthesizers for a while. But the toys will have to wait. My budget has already been stretched frighteningly thin from the security deposit on the new apartment. The company of friends and experiencing new places seems the most important for the time being.

Life never goes according to plan, and yet the act of planning is necessary for life. Funny how that works. I open a door and fall through a window; I guess the point is to go through those portals, whatever their shape.
