16 April 2002 (Tuesday): i'd go to his funeral
I talked my new landlord into buying me a new refrigerator this morning. Not that he took much convincing. He came with me up the stairs and looked over the rusty, dusty, questionable-smelling thing, and said "Yes, this has certainly seen better days. I'll have a new one brought in...it should probably be here by tomorrow, if that's all right."
I also found out that his secretary's daughter is getting married this July, and that his trip to Mendocino this past weekend was lovely. When I signed the lease last week he waved dismissively at the subject of so-called house rules. "My philosophy is, if I don't hear about it, I don't have to deal with it," he said. "Right," I said. "Well, it's not like I'll be throwing any wild parties or anything." "Just be sure to invite us if you do," he said.
This could be the beginning of a beautiful landlord-tenant relationship.

Sorry, just a moment:

There we go... all better ;) Thanks for giving me something to digest. Funny how someone pretty damn far away from me geographically can bring out emotions so near to me.
This internet is a wonderfully weird place :D
